5 Reasons I Like Commuting

I've come to enjoy my 20km round trip commute to work in Burlington from Hamilton.  Here are 5 reasons why I like the commute along as it is not snowing.

  1. Four days of the week I am able to leave the 02 Odyssey Minivan at home and ride on two wheels.  On Wednesdays I have to run errands on the way home.
  2. The first 6km of my ride involves interacting with only 1 or 2 cars.
  3. I can burn a bunch of calories.
  4. It's a way of dealing with any stress.  As a result, I am generally relaxed by the time I get home.
  5. I'm able to work a whole other set of muscles than my 12-15km of walking I do with Canada Post.

As soon as the snow flies, this will all change.

Do you enjoy commuting?  If you take public transit, how do you use your time?

    Hey Steve,
Is the bike in the pic a Cross bike or a Road bike?

I commute 40 kms one way Monday to Friday. I miss riding to work. Most of the time I listen to the news and then shut the radio off. If it has been a long day, I will either just ride in the quiet car, or blast some classic rock.

    Hey Jay,

This is a 2011 Specialized Cyclocross. It's absolutely great for commuting, riding rail trails as well as parts of the Bruce Trail on my way home. I recently picked up a Niterider 650 lighting system that is absolutely fabulous for commuting with as well. It's always nice to see where you're going. I wrote a blog about it on the Bicycle Works website: http://www.bicycleworkswaterdown.com/index.php/Bicycle-Works-Blog/Bicycle-Commuting/Great-Bike-Commuting-Light
